The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is an unprecedented five-time National Gold Medal Award winner for excellence in park and recreation management. The Commission's Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation was honored to win the top national award in competition with park and recreation agencies throughout the United States most recently in 2003.

In addition, the Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation and its staff have entered and won numerous other prestigious competitions.
