Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace
August 30 through November 30, 2008
Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace presents Charles M. Schulz’s lovable beagle, Snoopy, as his alter ego, the Flying Ace. The exhibit showcases 40 of Snoopy’s most exciting adventures in his transformed doghouse-now a Sopwith Camel airplane. Visitors to this exhibit can follow Snoopy on his imaginary adventures through the skies of Europe and in his battles with his archenemy, the Red Baron. Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace is organized by the Charles M. Schultz Museum and Research Center and is a program of ExhibitsUSA, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance and the National Endowment for the Arts.
At the Controls: The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Looks at Cockpits

Some of us have seen the outsides of famous airplanes like the Wright 1903 Flyer, Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, or the Boeing B-29 Enola Gay. But who, other than the pilots, has seen the insides of these planes? Featuring large-format color photographs of cockpits from airplanes and spacecraft in the world-renowned collection of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, this exhibition offers new views of 20 historic aircraft, including the Wright 1903 Flyer, Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis, Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat, Supermarine Spitfire Mark VII, and the Space Shuttle Columbia. At the Controls: The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Looks at Cockpits was organized by the National Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.

Veterans History Project
College Park Aviation Museum is participating in the Veterans History Project, a nation wide program documenting the stories of war veterans and civilians involved in war efforts. Speaking of Flight
Our seasonal Sunday lecture series highlights the past, present and future of aviation. Lectures begin at 2 pm. Regular museum admission is charged. Reservations are recommend, please call 301-864-6029 to reserve your seat.

Dr. Thomas D. Jones, pilot, astronaut and author discusses his career. Native Marylander Dr. Jones' adventurous career involves piloting B-52s and after entering NASA in 1990 flying in four missions on the space shuttle. Dr. Jones will be available after to sign his books, Sky Walking and Hell Hawk! the true story of WWII fighter combat.

"At the Controls" Family Day Event
July 12, 12 noon-4 pm
Explore the traveling “At the Controls” special exhibit, and then see if you have what it takes to take the controls yourself at some of the historic aircraft featured in the exhibit. Simulators will be available for you to pilot one of the Wright Brothers’ experimental gliders as well as several jet fighters.
Airmail Day

In August 1918, College Park Airport was the site of the first postal airmail flights. Come commemorate that event by enjoying airmail-themed activities including designing your own airmail stamp and dressing up like an airmail pilot.

Trains and Planes

Miniature trains, villages, tunnels, and depots spark the imagination as they bring history to life. The National Capital Trackers bring a fascinating and constantly moving display of model railroads to the Museum.
Hollywood Flyers
Spend a Sunday afternoon at the movies. The Hollywood Flyers film series features blockbusters, classics, and documentaries about flight. All movies start at 2 pm. Free with museum admission. Lemonade and Popcorn are included.

Scout Wings Day

Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of all levels are welcome to explore the history of aviation and science of flight with a variety of fun, educational activities. Pre-registration is required. Call the museum for details.
Restoration Shop Open House
Saturday, October 4, 12 noon-4 pm
Take a short walk from the museum to the restoration facility to see the process or creating and restoring museum quality exhibits and aircraft. Staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Wear your costume and join in the Halloween fun at the annual Flight Night event. Arts, crafts, hayrides, and spooky fun are waiting for kids and families.

Home School Day

Home-Schooled students of all ages and their parent-educators are invited to the museum for a day of learning and adventure. Aviation themed activities and crafts will address learning in science, math, language, and art. Pre-registration is required. Please contact the museum for more information or to pre-register.

Watch Santa fly in to the historic College Park Airport and then have your picture taken with him. Enjoy holiday arts and crafts in the museum.
