airfair 100!

Celebrate 100 years of flight at College Park Airport!

AirFair 100! will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 10 am-5 pm at College Park Airport.

This year's events, including an exciting air show featuring aerobatic performances, celebrate 100 years of flight at College Park Airport. Helicopter and airplane rides will be featured, along with aircraft displays, children's activities, vendors, entertainment and refreshments. A 1909 Wright Military Flyer will be unveiled at the AirFair!

Bring an envelope or post card and get a special airmail cancellation commemorating 100 years of exciting aviation history.

Afternoon air show including:
  • Misty Blues Skydiving Team
  • Greg Koontz, The Flying Farmer and Decathalon Aerobatics
  • Kevin Russo, T-6 Texan
  • Otto the Helicopter
  • Bob Essell, Ultralight Wingwalking
  • Dan Buchanan, Hanglider Routine Food and fun for all ages
  • Admission: $4 for adults, $2 for ages 2-17
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult
  • The airport is easily accessible by Metrorail ­ just a short walk from the Green Line's College Park/University of Maryland station.

    click for larger image The College Park Aviation Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is located on the grounds of the world's oldest continuously operating airport in College Park, MD. The airport was founded in 1909 when Wilbur Wright came here to give flight instruction to the 1st military aviators. Visitors to the museum step into an open 1½ story exhibit space, which highlights the display of unique aircraft and artifacts and tells the story of the airport's many 1st in flight to today. The museum gallery contains historic and reproduction aircraft associated with the history of the airfield, as well as hands-on activities and interpretive areas for children of all ages. Changing exhibits and new programs every month keep visitors coming back for more.

    The College Park Airport, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, also features a 1919 airmail hangar and 'Compass Rose' on the grounds. The airport runway is just outside the glass windows

    The College Park Airport and Aviation Museum are owned and operated by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission; the Field of Firsts Foundation supports the museum through donations.
