A good, historical murder mystery unfolds during a tour of this Civil War era home whose family became entangled in the intrigue surrounding the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. In honor of the 200th anniversary of his death, a special exhibit entitled Remembering Mr. Lincoln highlights the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President.

Darnall’s Chance was built in 1742 by a wealthy Scottish merchant and entrepreneur named James Wardrop. Museum tours highlight the similarities and differences between Mr. Wardrop’s wife, Lettice Lee, and the lives of other 18th century women, gentry, middling, and enslaved, who lived here. Restored to reflect the history of Rosalie Stier Calvert’s occupancy, Riversdale offers a glimpse into the early 19th century life of both the owners of the estate and the servants and slaves who worked there.
