Summer Day Camps, Summer Playgrounds & Summer Xtreme Teen Centers

For more than 30 summers, Prince George's County children have been attending summer day camps, summer playgrounds, and summer teen center programs offered by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. To give you a complete look at all of your options for a great summer, we've combined all of our summer programs for you to compare.

M-NCPPC's Department of Parks and Recreation offers two very different summer programs - Summer Day Camps and Summer Playgrounds/Summer Xtreme Teen Centers. So, what's the difference between the two?

You have a variety of options - you can sign up for as many summer day camp sessions as you want, mix in weeks of playgrounds/teem centers, bookend your vacation with a mix of the two programs - whatever you decide will make your child's summer fun.

For a complete listing of our programs, please visit SMARTlink! You can also download a copy of the 2008 Summer Programs Brochure.

Summer Day Camps
Summer Day Camps are structured, full-day and half-day camps for children and teens ages 3½-17. Included are general recreation camps (Explorers) that feature arts & crafts, sports, swimming and field trips. Innovative specialty camps feature nature, visual and performing arts, computers, sports and more. Day camp sessions are usually two weeks long and operate Mondays through Fridays from 9 am-4:30 pm. Before and After Care options are available to help working parents with safe, childcare options. Summer Day Camps have more staff and fewer campers than do drop-in playgrounds and teen centers; campers must be signed in and out by authorized parents or guardians. A complete listing of day camps for Summer 2008 appears in SMARTlink.

NEW! Sports Camps added for Summer 2008 at Glenarden Community Center, AND Sports and Dance Camps at Hillcrest Heights Community Center. Visit SMARTlink to browse camps and other programs.

Additionally, the following facilities are closed for renovations and will not offer camps: South Bowie and Upper Marlboro Community Centers.

    Summer Playgrounds/Summer Xtreme Teen Centers
Every year, hundreds of children and teens meet at Summer Playgrounds or Summer Xtreme Teens Centers. Open to residents of Prince George's County only, this M-NCPPC supervised program is available at more than 100 participating elementary schools and M-NCPPC facilities throughout Prince George's County. This drop-in program operates from Monday, June 23 through Friday, August 1. Playgrounds are for children ages 6-12 and operate Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm. Teen centers are for ages 13-17 and operate Mondays through Fridays. Before and After Care options are not available at these sites; playgrounds and teen centers have fewer staff and more children than do the summer day camps. Registered children and teens are free to come and go during the day, and to attend some days but not others. A complete listing of playgrounds/teen centers for Summer 2008 appears in SMARTlink.
