Historical Programs

Prince George's County was named for Prince George of Denmark, husband of England's Queen Anne, and is steeped in notable history. History buffs can learn more about this County's intriguing past by visiting the many homes, mansions and historic sites that have been restored and preserved for public use. In addition, programs have been developed to bring Prince George's County's history to vibrant life. Special events allow the visitor to get a taste of the past with lectures, workshops, costumed tour guides, and special events such as "period" dinners, teas, mock weddings, and archaeological explorations, to name a few.

The Commission manages a number of historic sites and museums that celebrate Prince George's County's rich history. Learn about the county's history through tours, exhibits, lectures, teas, special events, and programs at these unique sites. Several of these historic sites are also available for public rental.

For general information about historic sites and museums, contact the Natural and Historical Resources Division at 301-627-2270; TTY 301-699-2544. For information about a specific historic site or museum, contact the complex directly.
