Riverdale, MD – M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, announces the cancellation of all outdoor programming scheduled for July 16, beginning at noon due to the forecasted extreme heat in the Washington Metropolitan area. This decision is made in the interest of public safety and the well-being of our community members. All cooling centers, indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and indoor program will continue as scheduled. The following outdoor pools will extend general swimming hours to 8:00 pm this week:

  • Ellen Linson Splash Park: 5211 Campus Drive, College Park, MD 20740 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

Despite the cancellations, the volunteer playground build at Palmer Park Community Center will continue with modified conditions to ensure volunteer safety in the heat. The build will take place from 8:30 am to noon, concluding with lunch provided for volunteers. To combat the heat, extra coolers of ice and water, cooling tents, and fans will be available. The number of shade tents will be increased, and Park Rangers will be onsite to offer first aid if needed. Volunteers will take mandatory 15-minute breaks each hour, and an air-conditioned room at Palmer Park Community Center will be available for those needing a respite from the heat.
