The Fairland Regional Park Master Development Plan & Multigenerational Center Feasibility Study Project aims to create a 20-year strategic blueprint for the Fairland Regional Park and adjacent properties aimed at guiding the redevelopment and enhancement of park amenities and programs through inclusive community and stakeholder engagement.
Expected Outcomes:
A comprehensive, community-responsive Master Plan that:
- Enhances recreational offerings.
- Improves infrastructure and operational capacity.
- Preserves environmental and cultural resources.
- Supports long-term sustainability and regional collaboration.
Key Components of this Master Plan:
- Facility & Program Assessment: Analyze current usage, condition, and alignment with community needs.
- Natural and Cultural Resource Evaluation: Conduct environmental and archaeological assessments to identify and preserve potential natural, historic and cultural assets.
- Formula 2040 Integration: Ensure alignment with Prince George’s County’s long-term parks and recreation goals—focusing on health, connectivity, and economic development.
- Multigenerational Center Feasibility: Determine viability of converting Fairland into a multigenerational center, including the proposed 14,000 sq. ft. outdoor aquatic feature.
- Following are the key facilities and assets that are part of this master planning process:
- Fairland Regional Park: Softball fields, tennis bubble, multi-sport field, imagination playground, trails, picnic shelter, and a stormwater demonstration area.
- The Fairland Sports & Aquatic Center: Includes indoor athletic and aquatic centers with diverse amenities.
- The Gardens Ice House: Includes Olympic and NHL ice rinks, leased to a tenant.
- Northern Area Maintenance Facility at Fairland: In need of upgrades and expanded capacity.
- Gunpowder Golf Course: 96.6-acre bi-county course with clubhouse and maintenance structures, leased to a tenant.
