Divisions
Capital Planning & Development Division
Responsibilities
The Capital Planning and Development Division (formerly Park Planning and Development) is responsible for formulating and implementing the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The mission of the Capital Planning and Development Division is to plan, design, and construct quality park facilities for the public to meet the park and recreation needs of Prince George’s County residents. The Department’s six-year CIP, prepared annually by the Division, reflects the priority park acquisition and development projects in the County as defined in the adopted Formula 2040 Functional Master Plan for Parks, Recreation & Open Space. The Master Plan serves as a framework to support current and future CIP needs. The objectives and policy priorities of Formula 2040 are focused on connectivity, economic development, and health and wellness.
The division also performs regulatory functions of subdivision review, site plan review, and review of zoning applications.
Information Technology Services Division
Responsibilities
The Information Technology Services Division (ITS) coordinates IT and Communication services for all divisions of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Management Services Division
Responsibilities
The Management Services Division provides distinct Department-wide administrative services and special project functions.
Park Planning and Environmental Stewardship
Responsibilities
The Park Planning and Environmental Stewardship Division leads the long-range park and recreation facility planning for the county. The Park Planning section uses data to establish, analyze, and monitor the level-of-service program for parkland, facilities, and services used to prepare park master plans and to determine community, park and recreation facility needs. The land acquisition/real estate partnerships section maintains an acquisition plan to support countywide goals, acquires properties, and engages in partnerships to further the recreational and economic development goals.
Public Affairs and Community Engagement Division
Responsibilities
The Public Affairs and Community Engagement Division’s (PACE) work program:
- Promotes and markets parks and recreation facilities and programs and services
- Encourages public participation and involvement
- Manages partnership and volunteer programs
- Informs Prince George’s County residents and visitors about the Department of Parks and Recreation through various forms of communication
