Event Information

Join us during our Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration to meet artists Pepe Piedra (Perú) and Silvia Martinez (Puerto Rico) and view their exhibit on display, “Icons, Idioms and Myth.” Each artist creates surreal paintings, blending iconography, idioms and myth. Piedra explores the pureness, joy and solemnity of a life unstained by mankind’s selfishness. Through satire, he seeks to capture the essence of his Andean roots and the spirit of his Latin culture. Martinez is an artist and a Professor Emeritus at Howard University, with degrees from the University of Puerto Rico, Harvard and Boston University. She is a former DC Democrat National Committee Woman and former president of the DC Latino Caucus.

This exhibit will be on display in the lobby of the Publick Playhouse from Mon., Sep 2-Sun., Oct. 27, 2024 during regular building hours (M-F, 9 am – 5 pm). Please note that art exhibits are not viewable if a performance or event is taking place due to the close proximity of the theatre. Please contact the Box Office at 301-277-1710 if you would like to check the schedule before coming in to view the exhibit or before visiting with a group.
