“DC’s Queen of Blues” Carly Harvey performs and discusses her work, and her intersectionality as an African American and Native American woman. 7-time WAMMIE award nominee for best blues artists/band, Carly Harvey combines blues, jazz, soul, and americana styles to create a unique sound echoing Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, and Nina Simone. Carly is a Tsalagi and Tuscarora descendant and it is her belief that blues not only comes from the African American experience but is directly influenced by Indigenous American Minor Pentatonic Melodies and Stomp Dance Songs.
