Teens ages 12-17, take a break from the summer heat and join us at the Publick Playhouse for a free movie screening and snacks. “Dreamgirls” (2006) is a musical drama about Deena (Beyoncé Knowles), Effie (Jennifer Hudson) and Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose) forming a music trio called the Dreamettes. When ambitious manager Curtis Taylor Jr. (Jamie Foxx) spots the act at a talent show, he offers the chance of a lifetime, to be backup singers for a national star (Eddie Murphy). Taylor takes creative control of the group and eventually pushes the singers into the spotlight. However, one becomes the star, forcing another out, which teaches them about the high cost of fame. Safe Summer is M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation’s evening summer recreation teen program that offers special community center hours for teens and young adults who are Prince George’s County residents. Safe Summer offers recreation, safe spaces, and positive youth development for participants.
