In “Under the Same Moon,” sing mother, Rosario (Kate del Castillo) is living undocumented in Los Angeles while her young son Carlitos (Adrian Alonso) is being cared for by his grandmother in Mexico. Rosario speaks often to her son who longs to join her in the United States, When Carlitos’ grandmother dies suddenly, the young boy braves the crossing on his own in search of his mother.

Curated by Gia Harewood, Something Left Behind: Selections from the Studio of Michael B. Platt, presents work that showcases an insatiable curiosity about the everyday living of marginalized communities. Long known as a printmaker, Michael B. Platt preferred describing himself as an “imagemaker.” His pieces span genres and wrestle with the tangles of history and humanity in ways that provoke self-reflection.  Platt passed away soon after installing his last exhibition at American University’s Katzen Center in 2019 at the age of 70. He and his wife of 27 years, Carol Beane, a poet, co-created several of his projects and collectively affected the lives of many in the DC metro area. In collaboration with Beane, the exhibit shares Platt’s seen and unseen work, keeping the importance of his art and legacy alive.

Step into the world of creativity and self-expression with Mud to Music’s Flute-Making Workshop, happening as part of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. Led by expert instrument-maker and teaching artist Melissa Hyatt Foss, these workshops offer a unique opportunity to connect with the rich musical heritage of Central and South America. Through time-honored pottery-making techniques, participants will learn to craft their own working ocarinas, connecting with the plants, birds, and animals that inspire them most. No prior experience with clay, instruments, or music is necessary—just a sense of wonder and a willingness to explore. Harmony Hall Arts Center celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a special screening of “Problemista,” a captivating film directed and written by Julio Torres. Alejandro, an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador, grapples with dreams and immigration challenges in New York City.
