Riverdale, MD – M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, announces the cancellation of all outdoor programming for July 17 due to the extreme heat temperatures in the Washington Metropolitan area. The safety of our patrons and staff is our top priority, and we encourage everyone to stay cool and hydrated.

To help residents stay cool, all indoor facilities will remain open, and indoor programs will continue as planned. Cooling centers and indoor pools will operate under their regular hours. Some outdoor pools will extend their general swimming hours to 8:00 pm. More details regarding aquatic facilities, reservations, and hours can be found at pgparks.com.

Patrons are encouraged to delay visits to the following locations:

  • Parks
  • Trails
  • Outdoor tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts
  • Synthetic turf fields
  • Playgrounds
  • Golf courses
  • Picnic pavilions
  • Campgrounds
  • Trap & skeet
  • Old Maryland Farm
  • Any other outdoor Parks and Recreation facility

The volunteer playground build at Palmer Park Community Center will proceed as planned, but with safety modifications due to the heat. The build will run from 8:30 am to noon, ending with lunch for the volunteers. To ensure everyone’s well-being, we will provide extra coolers filled with ice and water and cooling tents, fans, and additional shade tents. Park Rangers will be onsite to provide any necessary first aid. Volunteers will take a 15-minute break each hour, and an air-conditioned room at Palmer Park Community Center will be available for those needing a cool break.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Our top priority is the safety of our patrons. For updates on outdoor activities, please visit pgparks.com.
